“287″ is the title of a film by Altruism Pictures, a documentary to be released in theatres by Fall 2008 across North America and internationally. The film is about our toxic body burden as a result of the introduction of synthetic chemicals into daily lives since 1900. You could say it is a “mass atrocity”.
There is hardly a community around the world that has zero toxicity since western lifestyles have now reached the most remote among them. In recent history, the Okinawans of Japan, the Hunzas of Pakistan and Vilcambambas of Ecuador demonstrated vitality and good health well over ninety years of age; their longevity with more centenarians on record than anywhere on the globe is legendary.
Why is the movie entitled “287″? The Environmental Working Group (EWG), an established and reputable grassroots organization, commissioned a study of infants’ umbilical cord blood in July 2005. The scientists working for EWG reported 287 synthetic chemicals, some are registered as the most toxic substances known. This is now how we jump-start our children into life. It is no surprise there is a drastic rise in chidlhood diseases.
“287″ is to our internal environment, what Inconvenient Truth is to our external environment. It too is a human emergency.
